The short version

Stay put if a shared e-catalog site and LightsAmerica’s free, ad-supported tier cover what you need. They’ve served independent showrooms since 2004, and they do it well.

Look around if you want to own your site and customer data outright, want your products to show up when shoppers ask AI assistants for recommendations, or need a site that sells your showroom, not just a catalog. Price tags, spec sheets and wish lists come with you: they’re built into Neural Core.

You don’t have to rip everything out

You don’t have to move everything on day one. Your public website points to Neural Partners on one domain, and your team can keep its LightsAmerica back-end catalog access alongside Core while it moves tags and spec sheets over. Your staff keeps a workflow they know, and your customers get a site built to sell your showroom.

Want to keep a public LightsAmerica catalog too? You can, as long as it’s set to noindex, nofollow. That way search engines and AI assistants read one site, yours, instead of two copies of the same catalog competing with each other.

One rule once you’ve switched: customer accounts and wish lists live in Neural Core only. Shoppers create them on your new site, and your team manages them in Core. Keep creating them in LightsAmerica too and the two sets of records drift apart.

What switching actually involves

  1. Own your domain. Your domain and DNS should sit in an account you own, not your vendor’s. Do this first, whoever you work with.
  2. List what you use daily. Tags, spec sheets, wish lists, quotes, trade accounts. Tags, spec sheets and wish lists have a home in Core. Decide what else moves, what stays on your LightsAmerica back end for now, and what you can live without.
  3. Ask what you can export. Customer lists, wish lists, trade accounts, content. Get the format in writing.
  4. Pick one home for customers. From cutover, accounts and wish lists are created on your new site and managed in Core only, so the two systems never drift.
  5. Map your URLs. Every page that ranks today needs a 301 redirect to its new home, or you give back search traffic you already earned. If you keep a public LightsAmerica catalog, set it to noindex, nofollow.
  6. Structure the catalog. Product and showroom data, structured and rendered on the server, so search engines and AI assistants can read it.
  7. Cut over and reprint. Flip DNS, then print fresh tags and spec sheets from Core so every QR scan lands on your new site. Watch rankings, forms and orders closely for the first few weeks.

What to ask any provider, including us

  • Who owns my domain, site content and customer data, and how do I export them?
  • Does my catalog live on my main domain or a subdomain?
  • Is product data on my site structured and server-rendered, so search engines and AI agents can read it?
  • How is my site different from every other showroom on your platform?
  • What happens to my URLs and rankings if I leave?
  • Which AI tools touch my customer data, and where is it processed and stored?

If a provider can’t answer those cleanly, that’s your answer.

Our take

LightsAmerica built the playbook for getting showrooms online, and plenty of showrooms are well served by it. The next playbook is different. More of the first round of shopping now happens inside AI assistants, and they recommend whoever’s data they can read and trust.

A showroom that owns its data and makes its expertise readable gets back into that answer. That’s what we build. If that’s where you’re headed, let’s talk.
